If your phone is stolen or taken: with a session running, your people are told
If your phone is lost, stolen or switched off while a session is running, the timer still ends and the contacts you chose are alerted with the last position your phone saved, even when you cannot act.
When the phone is your only link
If your phone is snatched while you walk alone, come home at night or stand in a crowd, the people who would call you and your own way to call them disappear at once. A system that depends on the phone goes silent when the phone goes.
In LifeCheck Mobility the timer runs on our server, not on the phone. If you started the session while online, the alert is sent by the server when time is up, even if the phone was later switched off, broken or is in someone else's hands. The position in the alert is the last one your phone saved during the session.
How it works
- Start a session: set a time when you leave or enter a risky place (15 minutes to 72 hours).
- If the phone is taken: you cannot tap "I'm safe"; when time is up your emergency contacts are alerted with your last known position and battery level.
- After the alert: as long as the phone stays on and online, your contacts see you live on a map (first 5 minutes on the free plan, until you say "I'm safe" on paid plans).
- What your contacts do: they see the alert, call you, call emergency services if needed and share the position with the authorities.
What you should know
The time runs on our server, not the phone: if the phone is switched off, runs flat, breaks or is taken, the alert still goes out when time is up.
While a session runs the phone's position is saved; in the alert your contacts see that last position and your battery level.
If the phone is on, online and the app is running, your contacts follow the position live on a map. If the phone is switched off or loses its connection, no new position arrives.
It does not lock, wipe or ring your phone and cannot promise to get it back. LifeCheck is not a phone-finding or anti-theft service. To find your phone use Find My on iPhone or Google Find Hub on Android.
Even if you see the position, do not confront or follow a thief. Give the information to the police.
With no session, no alert goes out. Make starting one a habit when you leave or enter risky places.
Frequently asked questions
If my phone is stolen, will LifeCheck find it?›
No. LifeCheck is not a phone-finding service. With a session running and no word from you, it alerts your contacts with your last known position. To find and lock the phone use Find My on iPhone or Google Find Hub on Android.
What happens if the phone is switched off?›
If you started the session while online, the timer keeps running on the server and the alert goes out when it ends. The position is the last one the phone saved before it went off; we cannot see where a switched-off phone is now.
What if the thief closes the app?›
The timer keeps running on the server and the alert goes out when time is up. For the live position the phone must be on, online and the app running.
What if no session is running?›
Then no alert goes out. The feature only works while a session is running.
Does it call 112?›
No, LifeCheck is not an emergency service. It notifies the people you chose; in a life-threatening situation call emergency services first.
